I think part of it is the framing of the event. It's about beaters

A 240 beater has rust spots, a dead horn and reverse lights that come one with the blinkers. A Milano beater is a cardboard box full of parts on CL, because it hasn't run in 2 decades.

I think a car's reputation for longevity swings votes one way or the other, especially when you are talking about cars people don't already have a strong feeling for or against. Personally, I expect the comments surrounding the 240sx vs. Fox vote to go nuclear around 5:30pm EDT. The butthurt and us/them rage will hit 11.
